Privacy Policy

Effective March 26, 2026

CheckYourTap.com is operated by Valiant Energy Solutions, a Connecticut-based company serving homeowners since 1930. We take your privacy seriously. This policy describes what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your data.

1. Information We Collect

We collect different types of information depending on how you use CheckYourTap:

Water Quality Lookups

When you search for a water quality report, you provide your ZIP code, water source type (city or well), and household member selections (such as Adults, Pregnant, Children, Pets). This information is sent to our server to generate your personalized report but is not stored or associated with any personal identity. We do not create user accounts or track individual searches.

Consultation Requests

If you request a free consultation through our contact form, you may provide your name, email address, phone number, and an optional message. This information is stored along with the context of your water quality report (ZIP code, water type, number of contaminants found, and which contaminants exceed guidelines) so our specialists can provide relevant advice.

Marketing Attribution

If you arrive at CheckYourTap via a marketing link, standard UTM parameters (source, medium, campaign) from the URL may be stored with your consultation request to help us understand how people find our service.

Automatically Collected Usage Data

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors use CheckYourTap in aggregate. This automatically collects information such as pages visited, time spent on the site, device type, browser, and general geographic region. See Section 6 for details on analytics cookies.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • Water quality lookups: To query public databases and generate your personalized water quality report in real time.
  • Consultation requests: To contact you about the water quality consultation you requested, and to provide relevant advice based on your specific water situation.
  • Service improvement: To understand which areas of Connecticut are most searching for water quality information, in aggregate and without personal identification.

3. Data Sources

The water quality data presented in your report comes from publicly available sources including the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Connecticut state environmental agencies, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), and Valiant Energy Solutions’ own network of certified plumbers performing field testing. Health guidelines referenced include standards from the EPA, Environmental Working Group (EWG), California Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), and the World Health Organization (WHO).

4. Information Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

When you request a consultation, your contact information and water quality context may be shared with Valiant Energy Solutions service technicians and water quality specialists for the sole purpose of fulfilling your consultation request.

We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to a court order or subpoena, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

5. Data Storage & Security

Consultation request data is stored on secure, encrypted servers hosted in the United States via Microsoft Azure. Access to personal data is restricted to authorized Valiant Energy Solutions personnel who need it to fulfill your consultation request. We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, but no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

6. Analytics & Cookies

CheckYourTap uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage statistics. GA4 places small text files called cookies on your device to distinguish unique visitors and sessions. The cookies we use include:

  • _ga — Distinguishes unique visitors. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_<ID> — Maintains session state. Expires after 2 years.

These cookies do not contain personal information and are not used to identify you individually. Google Analytics automatically anonymizes your IP address before it is stored, so your full IP address is never recorded.

We use analytics data only in aggregate to understand which features are most useful, how visitors navigate the site, and where we can improve the experience.

Opt out: You can prevent Google Analytics from collecting your data by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. You can also clear or block cookies through your browser settings at any time.

7. Data Retention

Consultation request data is retained for as long as needed to complete your service request and for reasonable business record keeping. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 10).
